Be Always Aware Who You Trust

In Roald Dahl's short story, "Lamb To the Slaughter" Mary, a nice women that is about to be mother lives with his husband Patrick that she loves really much. Patrick works as a Police man, and one day that he returns home from his work really late he tells Mary a disastrous news. Mary got surprised about the news because Patrick told her that he is going to leave her for another women. Mary at first seems to take it really well and offers Patrick some supper and she walks into the kitchen and gets a frozen lamb leg. Then.... she hits Patrick on the back of his head with the lamb frozen leg and she kills him. Mary committed a murder and what she does next is that she calls the police and acts like she is innocent. Besides Mary gets rid of the evidence by making the police eat the lamb leg.

I liked this story really much and I think that Roald Dahl uses a firm characterization that helps enhance the story and makes the reader have more grasp about the characters in the story, for example:

"Well," she said. "Here you all are, and good friends of dear Patrick's too, and helping to catch the man who killed him. You must be terrible hungry by now because it's long past your suppertime, and I know Patrick would never forgive me, God bless his soul, if I allowed you to remain in his house without offering you decent hospitality. Why don't you eat up that lamb that's in the oven. It'll be cooked just right by now." (8)

Mary is not what she prentends
This quote reveals the reader that Mary is really intelligent, because so she won't get caught by the police she gets rid of the evidence by making them eat. She aims to be nice and sweet to the police when inside she isn't she is crazy and a bad person.  The author uses great imagery to help us, the readers imagine what is going on the story, for example:

"The room was warm and clean, the curtains drawn, the two table lamps alight-hers and the one by the empty chair opposite. On the sideboard behind her, two tall glasses, soda water, whiskey. Fresh ice cubes in the Thermos bucket." (1)

Roald Dahl is using the sense of sight in this example which let the reader imagine the room in Mary's house. The author uses words like "warm" and "clean" which help the reader visualize what is going on.

This is a great short story to enjoy reading and all the characterization and imagery that Roald Dahl uses in the story make ir better. The story has a significance message that is applicable in our daily life. What we learn from "Lamb To the Slaughter" is that you always need to be aware of who you trust because even the closest people can surprise you. This message we learn from Mary because she killed her own husband that she loved. "Lamb To the Slaughter" is a great short story, that I enjoyed reading.

Truth is Revealed

The end is getting close and Jonas is discovering the truth that all this time was hidden from him...

The Giver Word Search

Find the following WORDS:
DEATH: Is the truth about the release

MEMORIES: Memories will get back to people once Jonas leaves the community

RELEASE: Release isn't when they go to elsewhere the truth is that they die instead

TWINS: Twins are born and the one that weights less has to be released
ESCAPE: Jonas is planning to escape from the community and god to elsewhere
PAIN: Jonas feels pain again when he discovers the truth of release
ROSEMARY: Was the Giver daughter and the reciver that fail 10 years ago
WARFARE: Jonas friends play a game as warfare and Jonas feels upset
INJECTION: Is how Jonas father kills a twin
PILLS: Jonas has stopped drinking pills
TRUTH: Jonas is realising the truth of his life
WISDOM: Memories are making Jonas gain wisdom

Still in the special voice, his father was saying, "I know, I know. It hurts, little guy. But I hace to use a vein, and the veins in your arms are too teeny-weeny."
He pushed the plunger very slowly, injecting the liquid into the scalp vain until the syringe was empty. "All done. That wasn't so bad, was it?" Jonas heard. (Lowry 149)
This quote was the one that caught my full attention while I was reading. And when I read this quote it make me feel really upset about what Jonas father just did with the twin. I know that Jonas father dosen't know that what he is doing is bad he thinks that it is right for the community. Even tough he doesn't knows is bad it still make me feel sad and as the author describes Jonas actions after he sees his father doing the release he is really upset and frustrated too. So in this quote we are able to see the importance of memory because Jonas has memories so he knows better about what is right or wrong, and Jonas father don't have memories so he only knows what he has been taught he's hole life he dosen't knows more. In conclusion this scene in the book was the saddest during all the story and made me feel bad for Jonas because he discover the truth of release which means death.

After all this last chapters where the most revealing and they made me realized the importance of memories. I was able to realize that because memories are helping Jonas to see  the truth is about his life and more. I think that Jonas decision about escaping was smart but I predict that he is going to have some trouble by doing it. The Giver has been a great book full of adventure and many more emissions mixed up. There is just 3 chapters left I hope they are great and they won't change my great perspective about the book.

Without Pain, Pleasure cannot exist

The Giver keeps getting better and better each second I read more and below there is a poem about the last chapters I have read...

"Jonas don't whine about the pain,
cause love is on its way
and with the memories that you will get,
more pleasure you will obtain
such as christmas and grandparents faith,
and real love you will feel and learn

Don't worry about warfare,
it will give you more wisdom
as the choice you did with Gabe,
by sharing him your memories
it was a smart decision,

All the memories you've earned,
have not been as easy as they seemed
but you have been able to control them well
and overcome them without fear,
but do not rely easily
because love will be more trickier"

"Who were the old people? Why were they there?" It had puzzled Jonas, seeing them in the room. The old of the community did not ever leave their special place, the House of the Old, where they were so well cared for and respected.
"They were called Grandparents."
"Grand parents?".  (Lowry 123)
While I was reading I found this quote that make me think more deeply into Jonas community families. What I thought is that The government is making families in the community be small and have more family unit missing. In Jonas community you never get to meet your grandparents and the old people are left in the House of Old with any family left. So this make me think that it must be very unfair for people in Jonas community specially to the old people that they can't share with the rest of their family. So in conclusion I think that the government has created something bad in the community and they don't realise what is the effects of it.

The memories that Jonas is gaining are giving him  wisdom as the Giver says that memories make you wiser. Memories are changing Jonas in many different ways I think he is getting to know the truth about the place he lives in. Jonas is giving baby Gabe memories so he sleeps so I predict something based on that. My prediction is that I think that the giver will find out that Jonas is giving his memories to Gabe. I also predict that maybe Jonas will give a memory to someone else that is close to him maybe someone from his family or maybe a friend. So as final thought I think Jonas will give more of his memories away.

Memories

Jonas is very anxious about his first day of training, he has received the instructions he has to follow as the receiver of memory. When he arrives to the place he was told to he felt very nervous, he gets to know the giver in person which gives him his first memories. Jonas is given the memories about SNOW, HILLS, SLED, SKY AND SUNSHINE. Jonas feels happy with his memories of pleasure and after that he gets his first memory of pain and is about SUNBURN. This memories changed Jonas thinking about life, and now he is getting the ability to see color red as Fiona's hair that made feel Jonas it was another thing of see beyond. But after he tells the giver about what happened with Fiona he is given the memory of rainbow were he is bale to see colors in things while the rest sees black and white. Jonas tells his first LIE to his parents about his dreaming, which he was now able to do thanks to his instruction that said that he could lie.

The giver shrugged. "Our people made that choice, the choice to go to sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with differences." He thought for a moment. "We gained control of many things. But we have to let go others." (Lowry 95)
This quote made me wonder about why did they quit sunshine?. I thought about this quote very deeply and I don't get why are differences so bad. Differences is what make people and I think that is wrong that they took that away from them. I think is very unfair that they took this away from them and that the only ones that can see it is Jonas and the giver. So as conclusion I have a question, Is it good that sunshine has been taken away?

As a closing now that Jonas have gain memories I have a prediction. What I predict is that Jonas will receive more memories and this memories will influence a lot. I think that because I `predict that Jonas will find something out that will be very shocking. Jonas will find out something because his memories are helping him to gain wisdom about things. In conclusion I think Jonas is going to realize or find something out thanks to his memories.

The Capacity to See Beyond

As you can see, recently I have been reading The Giver and currently I'm on chapter eight in which lot of unexpected things occur. One of the things that occur are the stirrings which are feelings that start with a dream which are forbidden in Jonas community, so to make this stirrings disappears Jonas have to drink some pills every day. Later the book goes deeper into each ceremony in Jonas community, it goes from the ceremony of ones to the ceremony of twelve explaining each one of them. Also we get to know a bit more about Gabe that he has been given an extra year to be ready for a family. But the most shocking thing starts on the ceremony of twelve when each twelve is receiving their own assignment, and when the turn of Jonas arrived the Chief Elder skips Jonas turn. When the ceremony of twelve was expected to end the Chief Elder gives an apology to Jonas and tells him that he has been selected to be the next Receiver of memory. The Chief Elder describes Jonas capacity's to be the next receiver of memory and tells Jonas about his ability to see beyond.

"Finally, The Receiver must have one more quality, and it is one which I can only name, but not describe. I do not understand it. You members of the community will not understand it, either. Perhaps Jonas will, because the current Receiver has told us that Jonas already ahs the quality. He calls it the Capacity to See Beyond."(Lowry 63)
While I was reading The Giver I noticed that there were many significant quotes but the quote before is the most. What I noticed on this quote that made me wonder about it, is that Jonas has something that others don't. I think about this quote as something really important because in opinion the capacity to see beyond that Jonas has will make things change on his community. Also to my mind Jonas is able to have this ability because he is very curious and thinks on a different way that the rest of the  community. So as my final thought Jonas ability is very special, he is different from the rest.

Now that Jonas has been given his assignment of the receiver of memory I predict that many things are going to change. I think that because I also predict that Jonas is going to be someone really important to his community and he will gain power and make good changes to the community, in which the government will not be agree with. On my opinion I think Jonas will do good on his assignment but his life will change a lot, his friendships will not be that close as they use to be, also I predict he wont spend that much time with his family anymore due to his assignment. In conclusion I predict that Jonas assignment will make a big change.

Into the Adventure

The Giver is a very interesting book that had made me think different about life. The main character is Jonas and he lives on a society were life is very different from ours. The society in which he lives is very harsh and it has many different rules that each citizen has as an obligation to follow. An example of a rule they have to follow is the twelve ceremony were each citizen is given an assignment according to what he is interested of spending in volunteer hours. Rules are the most important thing and no one should ever break them, but Jonas father did. What Jonas father does to brake a rule is that  after a while he brings a kid from the Nurturing Center so he can help him by feeding him, and what Jonas father does break is that he finds out the kid name that is Gabriel. Gabriel has something really bizarre for Jonas family that is that he is really similar to Jonas due to his blue eyes and almost all of the community has dark eyes. Jonas during his volunteer hours he meets a women called Larissa that gives Jonas a talk. In conclusion the Giver so far is an excellent book to enjoy reading about.

"But to be honest, Jonas," his father said, "for me there was not the element of suspense that there is with your Ceremony. Because when I was your age I was already fairly certain of what my assignment was to be (Lowry 14)" .
This book has many striking quotes but this quote made me think a lot on why Jonas father say this to Jonas. I have many wonders about this quote because I ask myself if Jonas father say this to Jonas to influence him on his choice on the twelve ceremony. I wonder that because I think Jonas father said this to him because he wants Jonas to be interest on a certain assignment in particular. So my question is if Jonas father say this to Jonas to make him think on an assignment in particular? .

This book chapters I have last read are really absorbing because they change your way of thinking to a different perspective. I predict that what is going to happen is that someway the community is going to change I don't know if Jonas will be the responsible about it but something will change. I think that because the society that Jonas live in has many rules and as Jonas father broke a rule I think that  many more rules in the future will be break and that will change the society. The Giver book is full of many shocking thinks that can change your thinking and as final thought I think that the giver is a great book to read.

Infering The Book

I think that the book the giver is going to be very interesting. I think is going to talk about certain point of view of the life from someone. But I think that the book will have something about mystery or something that is hidden to someone due that in class we were introduce to dystopia. And after interview the book because I will say the book as mystery because the  book makes you feel as there is something that isn't being tell to the reader so it would make the book more interesting and with suspense. In conclusion this book I think it will be something really interesting and fun to read and I am sure the book will have lot of surprises to the readers.

I think that what Lowry is trying to say is that people shouldn't doubt about children's because they are up to do many things. So this statement says that people more likely adults should trust children and not entrust them about the future and their decisions. so I think that is what the statement means and what the point is that children's should be trust in all their decisions.

My prediction of what I think is going to happen in this book is that  truth will be reveal or discovered.
